In the land of Ingary, where such things as seven-league boots and cloaks of invisibility really exist, it is quite a misfortune to be born the eldest of three.

Harry Potter was a highly unusual boy in many ways.

The small boys came early to the hanging.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

A mile above Oz, the Witch balanced on the wind’s forward edge, as if she were a green fleck of the land itself, flung up and sent wheeling away by the turbulent air.

It was a pleasure to burn.

At the corner of Adelaide Road, where the paving sparkled in the morning sun, Mr. Mack waited by the newspaper stand.

Lest details be mistaken for clues, let it be known that Mr. Charles Unwin, lifetime resident of this city, rode his bicycle to work every day, even when it was raining.

What about a teakettle? What if the spout opened and closed when the steam came out, so it would become a mouth, and it could whistle pretty melodies, or do Shakespeare, or just crack up with me?

“I’ve watched through his eyes, I’ve listened through his ears, and I tell you he’s the one. Or at least as close as we’re going to get.

He was gliding on the edge of the abyss.

There were no milestones in the Copper Country.

They say it came first from Africa, carried in the screams of the enslaved; that it was the death bane of the Tainos, uttered just as one world perished and another began; that it was a demon drawn into Creation through the nightmare door that was cracked open in the Antilles.

The wizard Heald coupled with a poor woman once, in the king’s city of Mondor, and she bore a son with one green eye and one black eye.

Maman died today.

Mercury is my favorite of the scouts. Little!Jennifer was mildly obsessed with this show, and I remember clearly surfing the web back in ‘96 and ‘97 to find stuff just to talk on the phone with Vivian about (anyone remember those days? Telephones? LAN lines? Yahoo! and Dogpile search engines?). There were a number of coincidences that cemented my love for her.

  • my middle name is Amy. Even without the romanization, it’s pretty close.
  • favorite animal: cat
  • loves computers (lololol)
  • favorite color: blue
  • good at math, good student (I was back then)
  • love of reading (I ever tell you ‘bout the time I checked out 52 books from the library?)

And a couple years later I started wearing glasses, yet another thing we both had.

Of course, the biggest thing that excited little!me was the fact that our birthdays are the same.

As much as I love her, I doubt I’ll ever cosplay her Sailor form, because a) it’s a really complicated costume, and b) even if I am ever skilled enough to make it, there’s still being comfortable enough in my own skin to wear a skirt that short. Still, though. A girl can dream.

Once upon a time, when the forest was young, it was home to creatures who were full of magic and wonder. They protected one another and slept in the shade of a colossal fig tree that grew on a hill, near the mill. But now, the tree is dying. The branches are dry, its trunk old and twisted. A monstrous toad has settled in its roots inside and won’t let the trees thrive.

What Your Favorite Disney Movie Says About You: Hercules

First of all, you have immaculate taste, Hercules is clearly the funniest Disney movie ever. Non-negotiable. Also, you are so not like those other Princesses who sit around waiting for their hunky, dopey, Don Draper-in-a-cape heroes to come and save them. No. You’re Meg, the Adele of Disney Princesses, the one who has loved and lost and is finally ready to love again. You can show a guy the ropes as a fabulous Greek chorus narrates your struggles, and you can totally part-time as James Wood’s personal assistant. (x)
